BRITISH LANDSCAPES
With the love and lore of travelling, we also explore far and wide on the British Isles. Often the allure of a new place lies in the idea of experiencing it through photography and painting. The artist’s eye and responses to wonderful adventures.
GOD OF SMALL THINGS
‘the god of small things’ are often the Big Things. This is at the heart of how I live in the world, choose to experience it, and see the world, inside and out. Gratitude and appreciation, an eternal sense of wonder at the centre of it. Small gestures are often the Big ones. Nature’s magic is often woven below eye level. It is in the details. The dash of pink across the sky. A dewdrop view of a flower. Knitted moss. As above, so below.
SEASCAPES
Growing up on the Cape’s coast shaped my early life profoundly. Now, living on the British Isles, I’m never too far away from spectacular coastlines and seascapes. The sea, and its eternal motion – from gentle fluid lapping to wild crashing of waves against cliffs, evokes the art of impermanence. The quiet acquiescence of living in the present.
BLUEBELLS & HEATHER
Every year I wait for the seasons to stage themselves: in early spring when the snow can sometimes still lie on the ground, snowdrops and crocuses push through their icy cover. Then come the daffodils, followed by the bluebells. Carpets of blue in old woods full of green shoots and new life. The height of summer is filled with the vibrant colours of hanging baskets, window boxes and quintessential English gardens. The last bloom comes in later summer, when the moors are blanketed with varying shades of purple heather.
Bluebells and heather time always instigates the next ‘photo safari’ adventure. And another opportunity to immerse in this ever-changing landscape.
As each season comes again, I am reminded that in the rhythmic dance of nature, there’s a boundless well of inspiration, a connection to the world around me that fills my spirit with gratitude and wonder. And the next artistic spark.
FLOWERS
For me, flowers are not just fleeting, but enduring symbols of love and life. A reminder to treasure each moment and cherish beauty on this brief time on earth. In an often all-too-harsh world, the language of flowers speak to a pure state that is also possible. I plant, paint, sketch, photograph, and simply love flowers – planting interior gardens, those at our home, and all around in the wider world. A life force.
